UNDERSTANDING THE SPF DIFFERENCES

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor

Choosing your SPF

SPF 30 is the most common level for most people and skin types. Darker skin types can use a lower level, such as SPF15, since they have more melanin in their skin, which does give some protection.

The Difference between SPF 30 & SPF 50

The SPF number is the level of protection the sunscreen provides against UVB rays. Higher SPF numbers do mean more protection, but the higher you go, the smaller the difference becomes.

SPF 15 protects the skin from 93% of UVB rays

SPF 30 protects the skin from 97% of UVB rays

SPF 50 protects the skin from 98% of UVB rays

just 1% difference between SPF 30 and SPF 50

False sense of security

Watch out .....   You think since you’re wearing a higher SPF, you are invincible to the sun.   Studies have shown that the lower the SPF the more likely you are to reapply
